Nearly 25 years ago a project began to regenerate "Sparrow Ground Reserve" in Canadian. However, recently there has been regrowth of weeds such as blackberry, ivy and gorse which threaten to strangle the trees and inhibit natural regeneration. Local groups have been working to maintain the area, but the weeds are winning, so..... Lets pull out some weeds! Yay!! The local ward councilors have been invited to this event so they can understand the issue and discuss how community and council can work together. This is a project that is compatible with current restrictions due to the COVID virus; it is outdoors and can easily be done with social distancing. Get some fresh air and exercise while doing something good for our natural world. If this is a success we will make this a regular, weekly event until all the weeds are GONE! Bring tools; rake, shovel, pitchfork, hand trowel, cutting tools, mattock, and anything else you think may be useful. If you don't have any gardening tools, don't worry, others will bring tools you can borrow. Bring a thermos, water bottle and some snacks to keep you going. Wear protective clothes; heavy duty gardening gloves, overalls, gumboots/ work boots, hat, etc. There is a car park in Spencer Street next to the oval. Walk across the oval from the car park, make your way to the walking track by the creek. We should be fairly easy to find if you arrive late. .RSVP: https://actionnetwork.org/events/sparrow-ground-regeneration-project
